How Does Your Garden Grow?

Nice enough to put some gewgaws out in the garden. A nuthatch is more interested in the bird seed.

Cool. dreary week and the daffodil buds make an appearance on Wednesday.

A close up of the cardinal nest. She had just brought the leaf. The nest is about 4 inches in diameter. She brings a twig, leaf, or bit of grass. Puts it in the nest. Turns around a few times and sits as if trying the nest on for size. Not sure where she is spending her time as she is not sitting in the nest full time. Every time I think she has abandoned the site, I see her bring another twig.

On Saturday morning, a bunch of daffs decided to bloom.

Some crocus

Not sure how much rain we got, but we got a lot this week. The ground is too soggy to hold up the rain gauge.

Some more daffs and Alpine bell shoots make an appearance.

  1. Your flowers are ahead of mine. I tried raking a bit yesterday but the ground is super soggy and there are some frozen leaves still. I think those frozen leaves are holding back some of the plants. But where I could rake, there is some green. Isn't it great to finally see signs of spring? Happy Sunday!

    1. We've had so much rain and more on the way. The ground is real soggy to walk on. Still am happy that a few flowers have poked their heads above the ground.

  3. We see birds getting nesting material and then later taking food away, so we know cardinals and robins and wrens are nesting nearby. We haven't located any nests, though. Our daffodils and cherry trees are done, and the tulips are past their prime, but the azaleas and the dogwoods are still strong :) It is _so WET_ here! It's raining again today, and although it's supposed to stop tomorrow, it's supposed to rain again Wednesday. The Ann Peebles song "I Can't Stand the Rain" keeps playing in my mind.

    1. We're in for heavy rains tonight and tomorrow morning. I pity those that are running the Boston Marathon.
