Himself is a fan of the baseball team, the Boston Red Sox. The Boston Red Sox has a farm league (minor league) team, the Greenville Drive in Greenville, South Carolina. The team had a home game while we were visiting so Moopa got tickets for us to go to a night game.

A statue to Greenville favorite son, Shoeless Joe Jackson. As a teen, Jackson was a textile mill worker and played for the mill's baseball team. He got his nickname Shoeless Joe when he removed his cleats because of blisters and played a game in his socks. Jackson is best remembered for his alleged association with the Black Sox Scandal when members of the Chicago White Sox fixed the outcome of the 1919 World Series. As result, Jackson was banned from baseball for life.
Fluor Field has a replica of Fenway Park's Green Monster.

Moopa got us great seats behind third base and across from the Jumbo-tron.
The Drive were playing the Rome Braves another A-league team for the Atlanta Braves. A Rome Brave player warms up before the game.
Players and fans stand for the National Anthem at the start of the game.
"And the home of the brave....Play ball!" (The last line of the National Anthem =^,.^=)
The score was tied 0 - 0. The Drive had 2 runners on base when fierce lighting and rain halted the game. The grounds crew scrambled to roll out the tarp to protect the infield.
Pouring rain and bolts of lightning come closer and closer. We were under an awning, but had to seek cover inside as the rain blew in. So what do you do?
You get a hot dog and a soda from the concession stand. I was too lazy to go get mustard and relish.
The storm passed and the grounds crew removed the tarp and mopped lakes of water off the field.
Back at our seats which miraculously stayed dry. Eye to the sky
Waiting for the grounds crew to finish
Ominous skies and storms on the horizon poised to roll through the area.
After an hour and a half debate of whether to play the game or not, the game was called because of the severe weather in the area. A make up game was schedule for the following afternoon. Fans could bring their tickets to gain admission to see the game.
Sadly, we were headed back to Ohio to pick up the Young One so weren't able to go. Moopa texted us that the Drive, pretty near the bottom of their division, won the game against the Braves with a score of 4 to 1. Moopa thought our presence in the field must have brought the team luck.

How disappointing to have the game called off. But at lest you got a soda and a hot dog! Happy T day and 2nd on the 2nd, Valerie
ReplyDeleteAnd we were with friends so it was a fun evening out.
DeletePerfect with the recent start of the baseball season it today is a double header for sure! It looked fun the first time and just as much this time. Now if only it was as warm as it was when you went last summer. Happy T day. Erika
ReplyDeleteI wish. Weather dudes were saying a dusting of snow Tuesday night to Wednesday. I was hoping it was an April Fool's joke.
Deleteperfect post for the double header-
ReplyDeleteI love your background page-Happy T and Second on the 2nd
Was time to decorate for a new month
DeleteInteresting sports memorabilia. I know very little about sports and teams and such. But what a day with the wild weather. That sky is something else! Happy T day!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge sports fan. Just tag along with Himself for the company. Watching the sky change and the storms roll in from the horizon was both exciting and scary.
DeleteGreat second on the 2nd post. It's a shame the game was called and you weren't able to see the continuation of it. I'm glad I was able to help with Inkscape. (I'm actually using it now, experimentally, to enlarge images.) Happy T-Day!
ReplyDeleteI'll go back and try the image again with the higher resolution settings.
DeleteOooh what FUN! I love baseball ever since I was a little girl. I am not a big sports fan, but I always enjoy a good baseball game!
ReplyDeleteHimself and I played sandlot games when we were kids. I'd rather play than watch as baseball can be a very slow game.
DeleteThe hot dog would be the high point of the day for me! LOL ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd the popcorn. And watching the lightning roll in. And ice cream when we got back to Moopa's house.
DeleteOur son lived in Boston for 18 months, we went for a visit and went to the Boston red socks shop as my DH wanted a jacket, it was a waterproof that he wore for I think fifteen years but sadly only last year he threw it away as it was worn out, now our son lives San Francisco they go to watch the warriors. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteHappy T day
Jan x
Himself has a Red Sox jacket, a favorite
DeleteThe HH swears the best dogs in the world are the ones eaten at ball games.
ReplyDeleteIt's snowing on my tulips.....
🙀 say it ain’t snow ❄️
DeleteI remember that post from this past summer. It was so fun to revisit it, though. I also like that it was a two-fer. So impressed you found a way to honor both T this Tuesday, as well as your second look on the 2nd. Great job on both, CJ. Now go get that mustard and relish to cover that naked dog!
ReplyDeleteI liked how I was able to work both in
DeleteMy husband is a big Cardinals fan, and it can be fun to just be at the ball park even in bad weather :) and your hotdog is the perfect food for the event. It's a shame, though, that you couldn't be there for the make-up game. Happy T Tuesday
ReplyDeleteWe gave our tickets to Moopa. They had some company so they went back so the tickets weren’t wasted.
DeleteGreat post! I enjoyed watching the Red Sox on TV and learning all about baseball when we visited last year 😁. Happy T Day! J 😊 x
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed our national pastime ⚾️
DeleteWhat a fun day at the ball game. The sky after the storm is beautiful! I don't get into sports unless my children are playing. But I guess it is all about the experience.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,
Kate
Himself doesn’t go to the games as the tickets are too expensive. The minor league team tickets were reasonably priced
DeleteA really interesting post to read, I am afraid i don't know much about the game , but I did like seeing all the photos and all the information you shared. It was such a shame the weather played its part and the games had to be stopped.
ReplyDeleteHappy T day wishes.
Yvonne xx
Stopping because of bad weather is part of the game, too
DeleteYes, I remember this post very clearly, and I enjoyed it just as much as I did then. For a non-american it is interesting to learn about baseball. And of course I remembered Jackson on his bare feet.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated T-Day,
Lisca
Poor, Shoeless Joe
Deletethat's one giant baseball in front of the stadium...fun! great story of your day, and the hot dog looks pretty inviting. too bad you missed the make-up game, but getting to see the daughter was probably way better. ;) happy belated T day!
ReplyDeleteYup, baseball game, popcorn, hotdog, baseball cap, but visiting the Eldest, priceless.
DeleteI think I would enjoy watching a baseball game - we get Cricket and Soccer mainly here although I do enjoy watching The Tour De France on TV every year! Belated Happy T day! Chrisx
ReplyDeleteBaseball is a slow game. Lots of time to art or craft while watching. No time out for tea, though =^,.^=
DeleteLiked all the pictures but very disappointing to have the game called off …
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Ya win some. Ya lose some (-:
DeleteWhat a great day, but it is too bad the second game was called off. That hot dog looks so good! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThe hotdog was good even without condiments
DeleteI enjoyed reading this the 1st time, CJ, and all the baseball memories and facts are just as entertaining the 2nd time.
ReplyDeleteSorry to be so late to tea. We've been cruising :-)
Belated Happy T-day! Eileen xx
Never late. Just prolonging the festivities. I do hope there's a T for Cruise Day coming up!
