T Stands for IMPACT: The Adult Student Exhibition

On 18. April 2019, I attended the Opening Reception for the Worcester Art Museum Adult Student Exhibition. I think this was the first year that the exhibit had ever been given a title. Impact. I had forgotten to take a picture of the title wall, so the first image is a composite I made with the title wall and my students entries into the show.

Students, their families, friends, and faculty members were in attendance.

It's always hard to get beginners to exhibit something in the shows. The art shows help promote the classes and show prospective students what is done in the classes. I have my beginning students make an illuminated initial bookmark. It's a project that they can do, do with confidence, and be proud to have their piece displayed.

After the bookmark class, I collect everyone's bookmark. This way, the entire class participates. Bookmarks are then hung on pussy willow branches with string, tiny clothespins, and artfully arranged in a vase.

Continuing students that didn't want to enter a framed piece made Weathergrams.

One of my continuing students, B, gave me permission to display his calligraphy piece. "Flowers are the beautiful hieroglyphics of nature.

Steve Wage is another continuing student. He sometimes takes a painting class before my class so I get to see his works in progress. His paintings are luminous and though abstract, I always "see" things in them. Mountains, clouds, oceans. I like the way Steve captures the light and how when viewing, the images seem to shift and glow with the change in lighting.

An art reception wouldn't be complete without a few nibbles artfully arranged on the table in the new open area. The Education reception desk, other work stations, and faculty mailboxes used to be in this area. We had our choice of assorted cheese, crackers, and fruit. The water cups on the table are my entrance ticket to T Day.

The show is free and on view in the Higgins Education Wing until 24. May 2019.  Sadly, the goodies are gone, but you can enjoy the calorie-free, eye candy of the exhibit.

Drop by hosts, Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog to find out what the rest of the T Stands For gang is up to. If you want to play, include in your Tuesday post a beverage or container for a beverage. Don't forget to link your blog to Bleubeard and Elizabeth's page.

  2. I haven't been to the WAM for several years. When my Mom was younger and in her house I would sometimes go for a visit while I was visiting her. Everytime I drive by I think I need to visit. Maybe someday we could meet there. It is nice to see student art work and the goodies too. I wonder if the museum offered them all the time if people would visit just for something to eat. Happy T day. hugs-Erika

    1. There were times that fancy, hot hors d'oeuvres were served. Some people came to the show and had their dinner! They descended on the table like locusts! :-D

And I would love to meet you at the museum. Maybe we could have lunch there, too.

  3. The exhibit and their artwork looks great. Steve's paintings are fantastic. You probably heard already, but just in case: Elizabeth doesn't have power, so her T-Day post won't be up until it gets restored. Happy T-Day.

  4. Good morning, I really enjoyed your post. I used to love viewing student art work. when we moved down here to the woods there was nothing close for viewing art or craft shows. I miss that.
I love how you displayed the tags in the pussy willows. hugs storms came through here too most of the night but thankfully we did not lose our electric. Happy T wishes Kathy

  6. When I first started working for Travelers Insurance 14 years ago, I had to use IMPACT and something else called T-MATE everyday. They eventually did away with it and used their own software. But it wasn't very hard to learn even for a dummy like me LOL!!

    1. I could do with a change of scenery and state... One can dream. But I would love to take one of your classes. Speaking of which in our little tiny town up here in the mountains a guy is opening a pottery studio and giving classes. I haven't really checked into it but sounds like it would be fun. Our little town is getting all beautifully renovated and it is becoming quite a tourist destination which ...i wish it wasn't....on holiday weekends you can hardly move through town and the lake trails are filled with people...So I should have lots of time to sketch if only the inspiration shows up.

  12. I notice you didn't link, but I came by anyway. I was in the "neighborhood."

What a gorgeous way to display your students' work. I imagine once they saw their art on display, they were quite pleased. You are a great teacher, too.

Too bad all the goodies are gone, but I would love to join you with my coffee mug. BTW, I kept thinking about what you would do for tea with a 24 hour power outage. For awhile, I was so in need of caffeine, I wasn't thinking clearly.

Thanks for sharing these wonderful bookmarks and goodies from the exhibition with us for T this Tuesday, dear CJ.

    1. I was on early this morning, but you were still without electricity. Then I was out all day. And then the Young One and I went to the movies so my turn to play catch up.

As to the long power outage, remember this Winter I bought the Cauldryn Fyre? It's a vacuum bottle that can boil water. Holds a charge for a very long time. I used it last week when the truck lost its wheel on the front lawn and I wasn't sure when the electricity would be back on.
