Saturday Afternoon at the Movies

This idea came from a Facebook meme:

Over 10 days, post your 10 all time favorite films. What movie has really made an impact on you or what films can you watch over and over and never tire of? Post either the movie poster, DVD cover or even a screenshot on your timeline. No need to explain.

Only I had a hard time picking out just 10 movies so my favorites over the next few hundred Saturdays 😸 in roughly alphabetical order:

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) Jude Law, Haley Joel Osment, William Hurt

If you haven't seen this movie, you can watch a paid version at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-rDxmNOYhk

  1. Since when does YouTube charge money to watch videos? Guess I live in a bubble. I have never seen this one, but would like to someday. I actually prefer it when people describe the film, so we know a bit about it, especially if we're going to spend money watching it. I suppose that's what Wikipedia is for, though. BTW, is that the kid from Home Alone?

    1. Charging money for the film has to do with copyright. Most movies we watch are not in the public domain. Rather than me describe the film, I'm posting the movie trailer so people can see if my favorites are something they would like to see. A written description of movies can be found at imdb.com (Internet movie data base). You can read a description, find out when the film was made, who directed, the cast, and a popularity rating.

No, Haley Joel Osmet was not the kid in Home Alone. That was Macaulay Culkin. Haley Joel is probably best remembered from the movie The Sixth Sense along with Bruce Willis. One of his famous lines in Sixth Sense: I see dead people

    1. Hint - perhaps you could review Harry Potter one of these days?

    2. Sorry, Valerie. I'm not a Harry Potter fan.

    3. I meant to add. Why don't you join in and post your favorite films that you can watch over and over again and never get tired of seeing?

  3. I remember this film. It was a good one. I need to watch it again I think as I don't remember tons of details off the top of my head. Enjoy this heat. It is your kind of weather. Hugs-Erika

    1. It's an interesting commentary on us as we move towards artificial intelligence and robots.

  4. Have to agree with you on the Harry Potter movies, I have never been a big fan of them either for some reason? I d k why since everyone I know LOVES them! Glad to know I am not alone there. ha ha ha ...

Alas, I have not heard of this move either, but perhaps I will check it out since I am house bound this weekend. LOL!

  5. If you're into AI you might like Westworld on HBO.....it just ended it's second season and has been picked up for a third......confusing as hell but it really keeps you engaged and on your toes. ;)

    1. The movie, Westworld starring Yul Brynner as The Gunslinger is one of my favorites. Sadly, we don't get HBO

  9. Poor kid, in The Sixth Sense _and_ A.I. ;) This is one of those films I love to hate. We critiqued the plot in a running commentary all the way through. I do love science fiction, but we just couldn't get past some of the plot problems in this one. We had the DVD, but passed it on to someone who loved it. One of the reasons I enjoy posts like this is to see the different opinions. Thx!

    1. The one thing about books and movies, one must have a willing suspension of disbelief. Yes, it's interesting to hear what others like or don't about best of movie or book lists. Sometimes it broadens our horizons, too.
