How Does Your Garden Grow?

A garden kite to celebrate The Eldest's birthday

I was complaining to Red about the lack of bees in the yard. She told me to go look at the milkweed because the bees were swarming over the plants in her yard. I didn't have a swarm, but there were a couple of bees.

The front stairs were moved back to their proper position. No more gap. Himself painted the rails and I planted some flowers in the rail boxes.

The new house number.

The snowball bushes got a hair cut.

Dedo and his hydrangea. Last year, there was only one small bloom. This year, there are three. Talk on the town Facebook page is lots of people are having the issue of very few blooms on their hydrangea. Lots of advice. Prune, don't prune. fertilize, don't fertilize, feed, but no one said what to feed the plant. Personally, I think the plant never got pollinated.

A Mama Grosbeak and her young'un. She was feeding her seeds.

The elusive cardinal. I caught him in the arbor vitae where he sang "purty, purty, purty"

Wild blackberries in the woods.

  1. Your garden is looking good. The bees here seem to like my lavender best. And I have black flies on my chrysanthemums, ugly! Your doorway and steps are looking great, love the flower boxes especially. Have a great day, Valerie

    1. I envy the flower boxes in Germany. I wish I had that kind of green thumb

  2. I have to admit that your garden grows much more colorful than mine. I am growing mostly mosquitoes! Yours is looking much better and you have no standing water, either. Love the flower boxes on your stairs.

    1. Rails aren’t new just a new coat of paint. And weeds here, too. I just don’t show them 😉

  4. Your gardens and house looks good. I like the garden kite. I think you could be right about the lack of pollination, due to lack of bees, due to the bee die off we've heard about in the news the past few years. And you made a good point about the bugs now seem to be immune to bug spray.

  5. You are lookin' good there :) My hydrangea doesn't bloom at all lol We're not getting any honeybees and haven't for years, but we do get bees of different kinds mostly at the lavender and the bee balm. We have purple finches, too, and we get a kick seeing them at the hummingbird feeder.

We're getting steady rain here from Barry. That's supposed to last through tomorrow.

    1. No, we don’t eat the blackberries. We leave them for the birds and criitters

  8. Wild blackberries bring back some crazy memories of walking in the hills, swatting bugs. We picked gallons of them and Mom made jam, froze some, made pies.

  9. My one good hydrangea is blooming great. The other one is deer nibbled and then I have a new one. But I know I have had years where mine has hardly bloomed and I know what you are saying about trim, not trim, etc. And although I have some bees, not as many as I would think. But lots of swallowtail butterflies and lots of lightning bugs at night too. I am loving watching those flash. Your gardens are looking great and I love the refreshed and fixed up front door. Happy new week. Hugs-Erika

    1. The hydrangea started life as a potted plant for Mother's Day one year and got planted in the yard out front.
