T Stands for Point Breeze Outside

Last month, we had dinner at Point Breeze, but because it was raining, we couldn't eat outside on the deck. This month, the weather has been spectacular so after running errands we decided to have lunch at Point Breeze. We got a table on the deck and had a beautiful view of

Webster Lake

An area set up for a wedding

a perfect day on the lake

Since Webster is pretty close to the Rhode Island and Connecticut borders, condiments include Malt Vinegar for sprinkling on French fries. I know this is a Rhode Island thing. Is Malt Vinegar used in Connecticut, too? In Massachusetts, it's customary to use ketchup on French fries. Do you use Malt Vinegar on your French fries?

It was very sunny so we asked the waitress if she could open the umbrella attached to the rail.

We started our lunch with an appetizer of grilled shrimp with a delicious corn relish

I had a cup of New England clam chowder with oyster crackers. Himself had a salad

My beverage was an Arnold Palmer, named after the famed golfer who liked to mix lemonade with iced tea.

Himself had scallops with sun dried tomato pesto

Since it was another Goldilock's Summer day, I knew ahead of time what I was ordering. Whole belly fried clams. And I substituted sweet potato fries for the French fries because I am worth an extra dollar or two. 😸 There was also a cup of cole slaw and tartar sauce which I don't use. Most times, I squirt the lemon on the clams. Sometimes, I also use ketchup. This time, I just used the lemon.

There's another place we go to get fried clams, Harry's. Harry's has awesome fried clams. Point Breeze's fried clams were delicious. They were fried in a lighter oil than Harry's uses. I like Harry's batter better.

We shared a slice of cheesecake with strawberry topping. Himself isn't too fond of cheesecake which is surprising because his mother used to make small cheese cakes on a vanilla wafer cookie topped with either blueberry or cherry pie filling. These were popular at bridal and baby showers.

The cheesecake was so good, I didn't get a picture of it but had to use a clipart image. The cheesecake filling at Point Breeze was much more generous.
Drop by hosts, Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog to find out what the rest of the T Stands For gang is up to. If you want to play, include in your Tuesday post a beverage or container for a beverage. Don't forget to link your blog to Bleubeard and Elizabeth's page.

  1. What a great place to visit, looks so beautiful - and the lovely food! Great photo of the helicopter-bug! In England it's traditional to sprinkle malt-vinegar on fries, here in Germany they use mounds of mayonnaise and ketchup, yuck! But I rarely eat fries, perhaps once a year, and then with vinegar, which I buy from an English shop as the German vinegar is only good for unblocking drains....Happy T Day, Valerie

    1. I'm not fond of mayonnaise so agree with your yuck especially on French fries. Your comment about German vinegar made me laugh.

  4. Looks like the absolute perfect way to share a meal. It's too hot here to eat outside, but I bet the breeze from the water kept the temps manageable.

As for french fries, I do not use ketchup on anything. To me it is vile tasting. I ask for ranch dressing when I order fries. My foodie friend Sally uses malt vinegar on certain fish, but I like my fish plain. Your meal looks good, though. Thanks for sharing your wonderful meal and Arnold Palmer with us for T this special sixth anniversary Tuesday, dear CJ.

    1. It will be too hot to sit out on the Point Breeze deck this week. Temps are going to soar. I love it. Heat and humidity don't have to be shoveled.

  5. Be still my stomach. If it isn't a lobster roll I love whole belly clams. I often go with the lobster roll since it is less calories, but clams, they are gifts from the gods. Wow. This is a gorgeous place to sit and have lunch. And we have malt vinegar here in NH too, in fact I prefer it to ketchup. Although not every place serves it, but I had it on my fries Saturday. Like salt and vinegar chips- right up there with fried whole belly clams.
Anyhow, it looks like you had a fantastic lunch and a great afternoon out. Perfect for summer. Happy T day. Hugs-Erika

    1. Whole belly clams, gifts from the gods. :-D You got that right! Interesting about the vinegar, I thought that was custom from our neighbors to the South (i.e Rhode Island)

  6. I'm glad this time the weather cooperated, so you could eat outside. It looks like a lovely place to dine. I didn't know about that Malt Vinegar on french fries thing until I went to Rhode Island a few years ago. In Connecticut, we use ketchup. Happy T-Day!

  9. I'd sit out there even in the heat (but I'm used to humid heat) just for the great view. I enjoy an Arnold Palmer and love cheesecake, but I don't put anything on French fries except salt and pepper. Happy T Tuesday!

  11. Now, this looks a great place to sit and enjoy something to eat …
    Loved all of your photographs.

In the days when I used to eat fish and chips malt vinegar was often sprinkled on both the fish and the chips …

    All the best Jan

  12. What a wonderful place to eat, and what a view!
I love scallops but i have never had belly clams (I think. I wouldn't know what they are called in Spanish)
As for the chips, my husband is British and has malt vinegar on his chips. We have to buy it in a special English shop on the coast as the Spanish vinegar is different. I come from Holland, where people have loads of mayonnaise on their chips. But I don't eat chips. I'm not a fan. I'll eat literally one or two if I have to. (Most meals come with chips. In Spain the alternative is cold boiled potatoes swimming in olive oil)
    Happy (belated) T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca
