Five good things that happened this week:
1. After refrigerator repair delays, sick delays (The Young One and I had colds), and the ride from Hell (don’t plan the route to Pennsylvania that takes you across the George Washington Bridge in New York City on a Friday rush hour, start of the holiday weekend afternoon), we finally arrived at the halfway point of our trip in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. The hotel never looked so good!
2. The Eldest had a stomach bug, and the Young One and I were still feeling blah from the cold, so we decided to hole up at the hotel in town where the Eldest lives and spend the rest of the weekend there.
3. On Sunday, we ventured out to do a little shopping at the local Walmart (the only store in her rural town). Then I spent the rest of the afternoon resting at the hotel. The Eldest felt better so she came to the hotel, we had pizza delivered and watched movies.
4. On Monday, we moved into the Eldest’s apartment. No one felt like cooking so Himself made a Wendy’s run for hamburgers. We watched movies and played a board game called Apples to Apples
5. Out shopping Christmas Eve for last minute things the Eldest needed for Christmas Eve dinner. While picking up ice cream, a man was filling his carriage with frozen pies. He was putting in a cherry pie and I told him that was my favorite. Then Himself and I both said: We’re coming to your house. What time should we be there? He laughed and said 2 pm. On Christmas. Later heading to the check out he caught sight of us and yelled, Don’t forget, 2 o’clock! 😺
The Eldest cooked a delicious chicken and rice dinner.
How was your week?
Sorry, but you made me laugh with your ride from hell!
ReplyDeleteOh, I am so with you, and never do that again! (In Germany, certainly).
Glad to hear you are better, hmmm, and Pizza!
Did you go? If it´s a small place the man was probably really meaning it? I think I would´ve braved up, bring something yummy along, too, and ... well... if your Eldest knew who that was.
Our week. Hmm. I killed the sink (but Hubby repaired it already. Now I only need to wait till the water is warm and I can do the dishes, yipeee (not)) ;-)
Have a great day, higs from here, Iris
No, we didn’t go as it was a total, random encounter with a total stranger. Glad your sink is repaired and you can do dishes!
DeleteSo sorry to hear you've all been so unwell, I do hope you are feeling much better now! It sounds like you had a lovely time with your family over Christmas and your story about the cherry pie man made me smile 😁. Wishing you a happy Friday and Weekend, enjoy! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteThanks! We seem to be doing ok. The Eldest doesn’t seem to have caught the cold and the rest of us didn’t get the stomach bug
DeleteHope you feel better
ReplyDeleteMuch better, thank you
DeleteChicken abd rice sounds yum, Happy New Year ☺☺
ReplyDeleteIt was good even better because I didn’t have to cook! 😺
DeleteSounds like fun, except for the colds, feeling bad and big traffic jams. And did you go for our cherry pie? Have a nice day, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI think if the Young One and I were feeling better, the trip through New York City would have been a big adventure. We didn’t go out for cherry pie, and I wish we had picked one up at the store
DeleteIt sounds like you had quite week! Glad you still got to spend time with your family. Hope you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteYup, feeling much better.
DeleteYou gave me flashbacks....I remember it well! NO ONE knows what a traffic jam is until they've sat at the GWB at rush hour!
ReplyDeleteGlad everyone is feeling better!
It took us at least an hour to cross the bridge! And we thought Boston traffic was bad!
DeleteNow that's a trip that'll stand up to re-tellings though the coming years! Walmarts have taken over so many of our towns. Sometimes it's even the only grocery store. Local businesses don't stand a chance :( Movie-watching every day sounds like my kind of pastime ;) I love it when we have friendly interactions with strangers. I"m so glad y'all are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteWalmart is where most here do the grocery shopping. There’s an Aldi’s and a Grand Eagle. Her co-workers told her not to shop at the Grand Eagle here, as it was only good for bread and milk. If she wanted to shop GE she was told to go to the bigger store in another town a half and hour away. I think as a result, I read in the local rag, the GE here is closing.
DeleteI've enjoyed your post, at least once you got to the motel. Guess I never suffered from NYC traffic, but I mostly parked my car in the all day car lots and walked all over Manhattan. Now getting stuck on the 405 in LA rush hour is a very different story.
ReplyDeleteGlad everyone is now well. Too bad you didn't pick up a cherry pie for YOUR dinner, but your daughter's dinner sounds yummy. Have a lovely time and a great trip home, too.
BTW, there is a Walmart Market (sells only food and pharmaceuticals), an Aldi, and a Dillon's (bought years ago by Kroger) within two blocks of each other. For me, Aldi had the best buys, cheapest milk, eggs, etc., and equally good produce. Walmart and Dillon's have better bread products though because they are all made locally.
I was tempted to get the cherry pie, but we had a vanilla cake, ice cream, apple tarts, chocolate. More than enough
DeleteHope you are felling much better now.
ReplyDeleteWe love a Chicken dish in our house.
All the best Jan
Yes, we all seem to be back to normal
DeleteSounds like quite the adventurous week CJ. Glad you didn't get the stomach buy and the cold wasn't like the one I had that last for like 3 weeks. Hope you had a great Christmas visit and it was great to have the whole family together. It sounds like (the actually holiday) was fun and relaxing though. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteNope, we seemed to have gotten a run of the mill cold. Courtesy of Himself who brought it home from the dojo. By Christmas, we were all feeling better and had a nice, quiet holiday
DeleteThat is so precious about the man and the cherry pie! I hope everyone is feeling better!
