Ways to Reuse A Bread Tag or Clip

The plastic clip or tab that prevents bread and other baked goods from going stale quickly can be a handy, little tool.

Use it to hold the end of a roll of tape.

Use as a scoring tool

Use as a makeshift bone folder to give your paper a nice crease.

Keep bits of string or ribbon from getting tangled.

Make marks on paste paper, gesso, or texture paste.

Can you think of any other uses?

  1. Fantastic ideas CJ. They always seemed like just more plastic to throw away, and that they never closed the bags as well as the old paper covered metal wires. Hope you’ve had all rain. 😀

    1. Yes, it's a good way to repurpose something instead of just throwing it away

  3. I shall now and forever more call you 'Heloise' (and if you know what I'm referring to, you're OLD, like me! 🤣🤣🤣)

    1. Sadly, I do know who Heloise is. I think you may be older 😺

  4. I don't like these clips, I can't get hold of them with my fingers. But you found some fun ways to re-use them!

    1. Some companies make them a little longer and I like those the best. But I haven't come across them in a long time.

    1. That's my number 1 way of using the tag. The minute a new roll of duct tape, painter's tape or tape not on a cutter, it gets a bread tag

  7. I wrote a tutorial on the bread wrapper holding tape in place. It is perfect for that.

I looked and looked and it finally hit me about the scoring. You have one of those scoring boards that has depressions in it. DUH!! For the life of me, I couldn't figure out the bone folder bit, but I finally saw you had folded the scored page over. Another DUH!!

I have painted and stamped on them to use as embellishments in my altered books. I have wound wire and (not at the same time) bakers twine through three bread tags to make a base on a page.

One thing in particular I had not considered was using one to scrape through gesso or paint. BTW, large tags are found on sacks of potatoes.

    2. I looked at my tags and some of mine have indentations on two of the four sides, and the other two have little tips, so they would never work for anything except holding wires and strings in place, but never for scoring. Of course, they will all work for holding your tape.

  9. I pitch them. I am a bad person for doing it, I know, but I still pitch them.

    1. I'm sure lots of us pitch them. Though I toss them in the recycle bin and hope for the best
