How Does Your Garden Grow?

The first big snowstorm of the season.  Another meticulously, hand-shoveled walkway.  Half the driveway was plowed. Around the car and the car were cleared by hand. The snow was forecasted to be a light and fluffy. The weather dudes lied. The snow was heavy and wet.

A weather watcher in town officially measured the storm total at 11 inches.

The plow guy neglected to plow in front of the mailbox. That was cleared by hand, too. I received a wrist slap in the mailbox. Apparently, postal regulations require a 30 foot clearance between the entrance to and exit from the mailbox.

Red sky in the morning

After the snow, wind and heavy rains turned the snow to slush

We were lucky as we didn't lose electricity and no water in the basement.

Unseasonably warm temperatures, sun and another round of heavy rains, cleared most of the snow from the yard

The heavy winds took off some of the panels from the greenhouse.

Almost all gone snow.

Beautiful sunset

and pastel Winter

  1. Ugh on all of that snow! But wow that the rain melted most of it. Is it Spring yet? - Anne (Cornucopia)

  3. First let me say, I love GNOMES! Snow folks and Gnomes, so I love your gnome ruler. As for snow, we are in waiting here in TN. Supposed to start later today or in the morn. Its the temps that I am really not looking forward to. In a new home, I am not sure what to expect.

    1. I just looked up the NWS to see what's going on in TN. Looks like you're in a Winter Weather Advisory. With 3 to 6 inches of snow. Up here, that would be more of a nuisance than a major event. I'm guessing you don't get a lot of snow so your public works might not have a lot of equipment to clear the snow quickly. I'm guessing this storm for you will be a major event. My advice? If you can stay home, stay home and off the roads. Look out a window and watch it snow. Put on a pot of tea/coffee read a good book or watch a movie. I hope the snow isn't heavy and wet as that could take down power lines. At 22 oF, it won't take long for the snow to turn icy. That's the worst thing. I hope you have a flashlight handy, food in the pantry like bread, crackers and PB and J that can be eaten without cooking if you do lose power. Stay safe and warm. Here's hoping the weather dudes go over excited and the storm fizzles out.

  7. Did you get snow today? We had some squalls come through. You got about the same amount that we did, but it was fluffy here. However, we got more on Tuesday, and even with the rain yesterday, we still have some crust around. Oh no about the greenhouse. I don';t know if we'll be snow free this week. Keep your fingers crossed.
