A Sketchnote Sunflower Tutorial

Combining a How to Draw Sunflowers tutorial with sketchnoting. I really enjoy the look of the sketchnotes.

Sketchnoting is a way of combining visuals (simple drawings) with taking hand-written notes to make the notes more memorable as a study aid. You can get an idea of what's involved from this overview What Is Sketchnoting

While I like the look of sketchnoting, I'm not sure I'd be able to do it in real time. With the sunflowers tutorial, I made some traditional notes, and then planned using a pencil what the final page would look like. Perhaps it's just a matter of practice using this technique to be able to do it quickly in a class or workshop setting.

Have you heard of sketchnotes or taken notes using this method?

  2. When I was in school I used to get in trouble for doing this. I was told I wasn't paying attention. Now it's all the rage.....go figure! LOL :-/

  5. I love the sketchnotes sunflower. What a great idea! Something related that I have seen is a field notes journal that combines sketches with written observations, all in a bound journal. Have fun with this.

  7. I have never heard of sketchnote taking. I had to laugh because there is NO way I can draw and write at the same time. In fact, I can't draw much of anything, period. I even had trouble drawing a snowman, which is just three circles and a rectangle for a hat and a smaller rectangle for a nose. I love your sunflower drawings, though and the final one is beautiful. Of course, everything you draw is fabulous.

    1. I had never heard of sketchnoting either. I guess it evolved from doodling in the margins.

    1. I don't think it's really very new. People have always doodled in the margins while taking notes.
