ReplyDelete๐ thanks
DeleteGreat pieces CJ
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't mind me asking a question as I am not finding a good answer online. what do you use to clean the nibs when working with india ink? I haven't gotten to playing with calligraphy yet and just realized I have no cleaner thanks
You don't need a special cleaner. So don't go out and buy "pen cleaner". You have things around your home to clean your dip pens. First, when you set up your work area/desk, make sure you have a small cup/pot of water. When you leave your desk, give your pen a swish in the water and let it dry on some paper towel or a lint free cloth. Do this even if you're leaving your desk for 2 seconds. At the end of the day, rinse your pen. Then use a soft toothbrush and a dab of toothpaste (if it doesn't hurt teeth, it won't hurt the pen) and very gently brush the nib. Remove the reservoir if it is removable and clean that, too. Rinse under water and dry with paper towel or a lint free cloth. (I like to use the blue shop paper towels) If the nib hasn't been cleaned in a long time and is gunky, you can let it soak for 10 min or so in Windex. Windex is basically what the "pen cleaner" is. The ammonia in the Windex will break down any hardened ink. If you don't have Windex, you can use reconstituted lemon juice. Let the nib sit in the Windex or lemon juice for 10 min, then use the soft toothbrush, clean the nibs, and rinse them in water. Dry on a paper towel or lint free cloth. If the nibs have been around forever and are rusted, buy new nibs.
DeleteIf you are using the Pilot Parallel Pens, do not swish them in water if you leave your desk. Just put the cap on. To clean the pen unscrew the nib from the holder. Pull the nib unit from the clear sleeve that screws into the pen. Remove the nib from the colored end. You can spray all three parts with Windex. You also want to use the plastic rectangle film that came with the pen to clean between the plates of the nib. Let everything dry on a paper towel. I let the parts dry overnight so there's not water left that might thin the ink.
I hope this is clear
thank you soooo much CJ so glad I didn't buy anything yet I am going to copy this for reference
DeleteNice inktober sketches and I really like that Spur Zombie. Sounds good.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think when I was doing the hand lettering. The second letter is an O with 2 dots under it. It's supposed to be Sour Zombie, but because of the O with 2 dots, the letter reads as a "P". I should have written it out on scrap paper first to see what it would look like. Obviously, it looked better in my head than on paper. ๐
DeleteI love the moon watch with that werewolf. He's ready!
ReplyDeleteThat werewolf will certainly know when it's time to change
Deletea werewolf watch would be much safer than watchin a werewolf me thinks !!! nicely done on all of these CJ !!♥♥
ReplyDeleteBut you'd have plenty of warning when the werewolf would be appearing
DeleteWell done! Love them all, but that werewolf is cool!
