T Stands For Everyone is Wild About Harry's

Our plans for the day were to go to the big box stores and to price a new front entryway door. We also decided we would go out to lunch and stop at Harry's,  a hole in the wall diner with amazing food. We especially love their seafood.

The only problem with our plan was our erranding happened to fall on Ash Wednesday. Harry's is a popular spot no matter what day of the week it is, but we figured we might not be able to get in as they only have a dozen or so booths and about the same number of stools at the counter. We didn't really want to do take-out.

We decided we would do our erranding around 2pm and then stop for a late, late lunch at Harry's at 3pm. We reasoned the late lunch crowd would be through or finishing up, and it would still be a little too early for the dinner crowd.

Our planning was perfect and there was only one other couple in the restaurant.

I started with a Raspberry Lime Rickey and a cup of clam chowder. Harry's uses real clams in their chowder, not a few clam bits waved over the stockpot. Himself had a coffee frappe (shake) and a cup of Lobster Bisque.

As an appetizer, we had fish cakes with a dill sauce. Isn't that a pretty presentation?

I was going to get an order of fried clams, but there was a special on Coconut Shrimp so I had that instead. Himself had Fried Scallops with Fried Onion Rings. We both had awesome lunch the next day.

    1. Didn't need dinner and didn't cook the following day. Win, win. A yes and no on the new door. Yes, found one. No, since the door has to be custom ordered the wait time could be as long as 3 to 6 mos. and the installation was very expensive. We need to check the other big box store and maybe some door and window companies

  5. Your plan worked out great and that food looks so good. i, myself, love Calimari and a few places we know of has really good ones. Problem is, the best place is in Dana point about an hour and a half away from us at the coast. i actually asked mike, since it's been about two years now, which day do you want to plan to go to the SanJuan Capistrano and other coastal towns. i didn't say do you want, I say what day do you choose, lolol. Kind of pushy but every time i ask him he just chuckles and we drop the subject. I'll drive myself if I have to, lol. Anyway, he said sometime next week.. We will see.

    1. Not push at all. Because if you leave things open ended, you'll never go. As far North in CA I traveled when I visited my friend who lived in the San Fernando Valley, was a trip to Solvang and San Luis Obispo to see the Hearst Castle.

  6. You've learned the secret to 'oldster' dining! The 'off' hours!!! Everybody used to make fun of me going at the off hours, even when the kids were little. But you miss the crowds and get great service! Looks yummy!

    1. Good clam chowder is hard to find. It usually tastes like canned chowder that's been doctored. Not Harry's!

  9. Oh my, that looks so delicious! I love clam chowder and fortunately they make pretty good one around here. The pleasures of living near the coast, all the seafood is super fresh.

  12. I always try to go to lunch at off hours to miss the lunch crowd, but long before the dinner crowd arrives. That's why restaurants never look crowded when I go out to eat.

LOVE the looks of the fish cakes and dill. Not a big fan of fish cakes, but these might be better than grocery store ones I got one time. And how can you go wrong if you add dill?

Your Raspberry Lime Rickey looks great, but cold. Of course, your husband's coffee shake sounds even better to me. Thanks for taking us to Harry's and the amazing meal you and drinks you shared with us for T this Tuesday, dear CJ.
