Are you having problems finding the brand of canned cat or dog food you feed your pet? I haven't had an issue yet of finding the brand of canned food the kittens have been eating (Royal Canin) but next month they will be transitioning to adult cat food.
The kittens are supposed to be on a wet food only diet according to the vet, but demand feeding wasn't working as well as leaving kibble out during the day and wet food at morning and evening meal time.
At the grocery store, Target, and even PetSmart, I've noticed empty shelves of some popular brands of cat food: Fancy Feast, Purina One. Are you just feeding your cat or dog just kibble? Did you switch to a less popular brand of canned food? Are you mixing water in the kibble? Inquiring minds want to know.
I've never really bought a lot of wet pet food. The dogs get dry food and scraps from our dinner. When I had the cats, Leo would only eat dry food except for Trader Joe's cat tuna, which he loved. I even made up a silly tuna song that I would sing when he got it in the morning. He knew that song. Emmie (the other cat we had) wasn't so picky but she liked cat milk which I found at Petco. Just a small saucer. Sorry I can't be of any more help, but I was shocked at the grocery store yesterday how little people milk they had. No fat free at all. They told me it wasn't being delivered to them. Hmmmm. Happy Monday. Stay warm.
ReplyDeleteI guess we'll be feeling a lot of supply chain issues.
DeleteBoth my cats get dry kibble daily. Bleubeard doesn't have a problem with portion control, but Squiggles would eat a huge bowl of food in one setting if I let him. That's how he got so fat last year. They get Fancy Feast on their birthdays and at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Other than that, they get a combination of Rachel Ray, Kirkland Signature, and Blue Wilderness Grain Free. In summer, I add IAMS Hairball to their mix. I buy the bags and combine them because the cats seem to have their own, albeit different preferences, but seem to accept the ones they like less if they are all mixed together. Looks like I'm not much help, since my cats love dry kibble.
ReplyDeleteInk only ate dry kibble, but that was because he ate so fast, especially wet food, it would come back up. To slow him down, I had to put a golf ball in his dish. The kitties are pretty good at portion control of the kibble during the day. Morning and night they get 1/4 of a large can of wet food. Quill likes the crunchy food. Calli eats it but prefers the wet.
DeleteI have a FB friend who is having trouble finding the food her cat needs, and when she finds it she celebrates.
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling
DeleteI'm afraid i only have old news... Jinx always had dry available.. Purina One.. and he got one can of wet in the morning Fancy Feast... and trust me he didn't let you forget that can in the morning.. lol
ReplyDeleteThat's like Calli first thing in the morning, she screams for the wet food.
DeleteInteresting the things the supply chain is having trouble providing.....I have had trouble for months now finding half and half and of all things, scallions!!!! Explain to me how scallions are being disrupted by the supply chain????? They are grown in the next town!!!!! :-/
ReplyDeleteI've noticed the shortage on half and half, too, especially fat-free half and half. Scallions, supply issues from the next town over, that's an odd scenario.
DeleteCan't help you, no animals just now! vALERIE

DeleteI feed the cats different kinds of cat food because the vet recommends we do so. I have noticed that PetSmart's shelves have been empty a lot lately. Fancy Feast is hard to get!
ReplyDeleteRoyal Canin is amongst the best to give the cats according to our vet.
Royal Canin is what the kittens were fed at the adoption center. I thought it best to continue with that food. The vet wanted them on wet only as he said dry had too many carbs. Wet only wasn't working out for us so I went back to the kibble plus wet and the kitties are happier. The vet gave me a list of low carb wet foods, but I'm having a hard time finding them
Deleteknock wood and toss salt mackerull; like tuna was, is a good water drinker so I don't need to add water.
ReplyDeletegetting any food, regardless of the "brand" around' here is hit and miss; so I typically grab a few cans when I see them. Chewy, Pet Supplies Plus, local retailers all the same.
the song and dance we were hearing is there was an aluminum shortage....indeed...it didn't seem to affect cans of dog food, though admittedly I don't have a dog to buy for ~~~
I was wondering if people couldn't find wet food, if they added water to the dry to make "wet food". Both Calli and Quill drink water from the "secret" water bowl, hidden under the kitchen cabinet by the fridge. Yeah, I heard the same excuse about the can supply chain issue
DeleteStater Brothers over in lake ARrowhead is out of mostly all cat food. Every time we go there the shelves are almost empty. And the price of what is there has gone up about 30 cents a can. At our local family own grocery store here by lake Gregory , "Goodwins" they keep fully stocked on everything. They have always been more expensive than Staters but this grocery store is a beauty - even has an ice cream counter and homemade candies.
ReplyDeleteA fully stocked store is a blessing so you don't have to worry about finding kitty food.
DeleteIt is for sure. I'm thinking though we probably need to stock up at least on bags of dry food in case we can't get her canned food in the future. She's picky so there's no point in trying to find something we humans like to eat that she might like. I've tried everything and the only thing she loves is vanilla icecream which i only let her have the bowl after I've finished it off. She licks it clean.
DeleteInk liked vanilla ice cream, vanilla yogurt, yellow cake, any kind of meat especially pork. If I made pork chops for dinner, he would sit by my place, use my knee to help him get up on his hind legs to sniff the edge of the table. Quill liked the yellow cake part of a blueberry muffin I had the other day. Will have to wait for the Summer to see if the babies like vanilla ice cream
DeleteNo pets in our house, but I think worldwide there are continuing supply chains issues.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Deep sigh. Forlorn look.
