The washing machine is happy. Can you see him smiling? |
1. The Eldest treated me to lunch at Perkin's and then she went shopping for a microwave, card table and chairs, a step stool, and food. She also cooked a delicious dinner of pork chops.
2. We went to the big town, about 45 minutes away, to buy a washer from Lowe's.
3. The Eldest had to drive to Pittsburgh, two hours away, for part 1 of her orientation. She got there and back safely, and we let Marie (Callender) cook for us.
4. The washing machine was delivered and it works. TSA won't have to rummage through my dirty unmentionables.
5. The Eldest made it to Pittsburgh and back safely in the snowstorm for part 2 of orientation. She said the driving was horrible. Seems clearing roads isn't that great down here.
How was your week?
Glad your eldest is settling in and getting her act together. Driving in snow doesn't seem to be such fun, but I suppose it's sometimes not avoidable. Here the week was too quick! Don't know where it went....Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteShe's a lab technician at a hospital laboratory. No snow days for hospital workers as people's lives depend on hospital employees doing their job.
DeleteSounds like a good week. Think your daughter will be sad when you leave or is she ready to get rolling on her big life adventure? Happy weekend. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI think she'll be a little sad, but she was always the kind of kid that took off and never looked back.
DeleteYes, I see him smiling! He's happy yo be there as is The Eldest! Good week! :)
ReplyDeleteYup, was a good week. And I'm home now.
DeleteSounds like you got loads done this week! It's good to hear that your eldest is settling into her new place ok and I'm sure your help and support is very much appreciated 😁. Wishing you a wonderful weekend! J 😊
ReplyDeleteYes, she loved having the help, but time to let her soar on her own.
DeleteGlad to read that you are home. That takes a load off my mind. Sounds like both you and the Eldest got a lot accomplished this week. What does a lab tech do, exactly? Was the washer smiling because you cleaned your unmentionables, or because it was happy to be there?
ReplyDeleteA lab tech is the person who runs the tests the doctor has ordered. When you have your blood drawn, the phlebotomist sticks you in the arm with a needle and collects small, vials of blood with colored rubber tops. Each color designates the type of test your doctor has ordered: red tops are chemistry tests like electrolytes, blood sugar, cholesterol, and triglycerides. Purple top for complete blood count, blue top for coagulation tests. The vials are sent to the lab where the lab tech will spin the blood in a centrifuge to separate the serum from the solid portions of blood. The tech then puts a sample of the serum in a machine to perform the test. In the old days, a drop of blood was smeared on glass slides and then the tech would look at the sample through a microscope to count the various types of blood cells Complete Blood Count. I don't know if this test is still done manually or if it has been automated. In microbiology a drop of urine, for example would be spread on a blood agar plate by the tech, or a throat swab would also be spread on a blood agar plate. The plate would then be placed in an incubator. In 24 hours, the tech would look at the plates to see what type of bacteria has grown on the agar. If nothing appears on the plates, the plates are then incubated for another 24 hours to see if anything grows. Then the plates are tested to see which antibiotic would be effective to kill the bugs. Rather an over simplification, but those are the kinds of tasks a hospital lab tech performs.
DeleteI think the washer was smiling because he was happy to be there.
I'm happy your Eldest made it back safe in the snow storm. I can see the washing machine smiling! LOL! Hope you're having a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteI don't like driving in the snow and she had a long commute as Pittsburgh is an hour and a half to 2 hrs away from where she lives. So a relief when she got back home.
