T Stands For How To Prevent Going Stir Crazy While Staying Home

My cup a tea while I prepared today's blog post
For some of us, working from home is nothing new. If we need to take breaks, there's always something to do: clean out a drawer, procraftinate (procrastinate by making a craft), reading, Netflix. But after awhile, even those things become boring. What to do to prevent yourself from going stir crazy while we all figure out some sort of new normal?

First of all, take a break from the news. Washing hands, social distancing. We get it. Listening to how many stores have been, dare I say, wiped out of toilet paper isn't helpful. Especially, if your supply is getting low.

Fortunately, with Internet access, we have the world, without fear of getting a contagion, at our finger tips.

Travel and Leisure has a list of 12 museums that are offering Virtual tours.

Like opera? The Metropolitan will offer free streaming of performances.  this week. Follow the link to see the schedule.

If you're feeling especially anxious about what's happening. Virus Anxiety has links for meditation, financial worries, and other resources so you don't feel like you're all alone. They even have a random and amusing section To Take A Break My favorite was a virtual drawing app called Silk

Unleash your Inner Child and download free coloring illustrations from museums. These would be great for those of you who make mixed-media, art,  journal pages.

Many libraries have closed so if you've exhausted all the books on your night table and shelves, you can visit the link to your local library. I bet you can apply for an E-card and download e-books for free. You don't even need a special e-reader device, you can read on your computer monitor.

And today is St. Patrick's Day, but many St. Patrick's Day parades and festivities were also cancelled.  If you're feeling sad that you didn't get to watch the parade, you can watch Boston's St. Patrick's Day parade from 2016 on YouTube.

Boston's The Dropkick Murphys will be Live Streaming Up From Boston a full, free concert on March 17. Follow the link to check time and details.

If your cable provider includes TCM, you can watch John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara in The Quiet Man at 8 PM EDT. Check your cable provider for station number.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Riverdance. You can watch a 1995 performance on YouTube.

This is a stressful time for all of us, and we need to be patient and kind to one another. Keep in contact with your family and friends. This is the best part of social media. You can practice social distancing, but remain in contact with family and friends. Remember, we're all in this together. If you need an ear to bend, email me. I'm a good listener.

Drop by hosts, Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog to find out what the rest of the T Stands For gang is up to. If you want to play, include in your Tuesday post a beverage or container for a beverage. Don't forget to link your blog to Bleubeard and Elizabeth's page.

  5. Yes it does get tedious when it’s ongoing especially as we aren’t allowed outside unless shopping, just knowing you can’t go out makes it worse, mad I know but at least we have each other, it must be awful if you are alone.thank goodness for the internet
    Take care

    1. I hate shopping and don't mind not going out. You can go out, just have to stay in your own back yard or garden. Even the Italians went outside on their balconies to sing to each other. It would be terrible to go through this alone. As you said, thank goodness for the Internet

  9. For some reason my friend, Andy's comment didn't go through:

Thanks for the tip on the Met-- I spent many many Saturday nights there when I lived in NYC and it's one of my very favorite places. The streaming is a welcome addition to our nights off.

    Good stuff!

  12. I, so far at least, have the opposite problem. (listen to me, after only 1 full day home) There is so many good things to do why do I want to work on my computer? But you have some super suggestions here. And did you get snowflakes today? We had a dusting, but it is gone when it turned over to rain. But Thursday, well that sounds sketchy. AT least here. Hope it was a happy T day. Hugs-Erika

  14. I so wish I could work from home - every day! As it is, my employer is making us work 8 hours overtime this Saturday as we had to last weekend as well. We make probes for doctors eye surgery and they have decided in lieu of temporarily shutting down the plant/business, we were all given personal thermometers we have to take our temperatures before we leave for work and they will check us AGAIN before we enter the building - what a way to run a business I'd say.

    1. Though a PITA, a necessary precaution. After all, you are doing very important work. The surgeons and their patients depend on you.

    2. I agree it is important since it is a medical product which goes into patients eyes; HOWEVER, unfortunately the company is ONLY looking at dollar signs over ANYTHING! Otherwise, why would they be forcing us to work mandatory 8 hour Saturday's in the middle of a soc-called nation-wide epidemic? - risking even more exposure to the virus as we are literally handling the product? No matter how many precautions you take, there is always a risk. Unfortunately, the cover of Forbes magazine means more to these people seriously. :( Have a good one be safe!

    3. 🙁 I was trying to put a positive spin on things. The company shouldn't risk the health of their workers

  15. Thank you for this very positive post with lots of good links. As I'm sure you can tell, I'm one of the people severely stressing out over this. (If I remember to, I'll send you an email to explain some of my current personal circumstances that are going on, which is why I have heightened concerns right now.) Your positive comments have been very helpful. Stay healthy and safe.

The links are great and I have been watching La Bohème this morning (I got half way when the internet started faltering, but it was wonderful while it lasted). I will visit some virtual exhibition tonight. What a great opportunity to do different things and learn different things.
    Happy T-Day my friend,
    and stay safe,

  20. WOW, I went to the first link you offered with the 12 museums. I've been to three of these and would LOVE to see what they are offering online. I also really enjoyed seeing the other links and LOVED that I can read e-books on my computer. That will be helpful. Right now, I'm playing catch up because I'm not a very good host this week.

Thanks for sharing all these wonderful links, and your tea with us for T this past Tuesday. I appreciate your calm and caring voice of reason during T this week. Thanks for that, too.
