How Does Your Garden Grow?

I was going to go out this morning and take a couple of pictures, but it's still too early and too wet. There have been a half dozen or so cases of EEE (Eastern Equine Encephalitis) in Massachusetts. One person has died from the disease carried by mosquitoes. There has been aerial spraying of my area during the last couple of weeks at night. A lot of towns have cancelled outdoor activities from 6 pm until 8 am.  We had some heavy downpours last night, too.

Fading hydrangea blossom

Leaves turning red on the swamp maple

A late bloomer on the squash plant

The bird feeder doing a good business. The birds were coming in like the feeder was an airport. Timex, the chipmunk showed up, too.

Two of Cinnamon's babies, Cadbury and Marzipan, came right up to the stairs outside of the sun room for a snack. One of them ran away as I slowly opened the slider and screen to take a picture. Not this little guy or gal.

How does your garden grow?

  1. We're getting the same EEE warnings as as I think the death was around Methuen, which of course is right next door to NH. Not much rain on the drive but there was a big accident on 495 near route 2 and that killed almost an hour. Uggh. That road is the worst. But your garden is looking good for mid-September. Today I am taking in my house plants as the nights are definitely crisper, aren't they? Love the little bunny. You are lucky to have them. I think I have only seen 1 here in all the years I have been here. Guess we have too big of a coyote/fox/bobcat population. Happy Sunday. Enjoy this beautiful day. hugs-Erika

    1. I hate driving 495. That road is so dangerous. We have all of those creatures in my area, too, so I'm surprised to see the bunnies. Haven't seen the squirrel lately.

  3. We have too many chipmunks to name lol and no bunnies. A variety is nice, I think. Right now we get mostly sparrows, and I miss the other birds. Your autumn color looks nice :)

  4. Sorry about the EEE, sounds very bad. Your garden is looking good, love the rabbit. We visited the botanical gardens of the university this afternoon, always a pleasure to walk there. Have a great afternoon, Valerie

  5. Look at that sweet bunny. Your garden is beautiful. That's scary to hear of the EEE. Be careful when you are outside.
Help yourself to a download of Ink.
    YOU have a great one.

  7. Your gardens still look good. And I enjoy seeing the birds and animal visitors. The rabbit is adorable. We've had a few mosquitoes test positive for EEE in CT, but I'm not sure if any people here have come down with it, but it's worrisome.

    1. Very worrisome and still another month or so before the first, hard freeze will kill them off

  8. How in the world did I miss this, CJ? We've had EEE warnings, too, although the big threat seems to be back east. We had so much standing rain earlier in the year, it became a feeding ground for the mosquitoes. In fact, I can't water my herbs without one or more buzzing around me. I have to spray with Deet before I can go out to give my herbs their daily water intake.

Your garden is still looking rather decent and the bunny is SO adorable. Great catch.

    1. We have been told to wear long sleeves, trousers, and to perfume ourselves with Deet to protect ourselves. For my area we have another month or so to go before a hard freeze will finish off the bugs. Do be careful when you are outside.

    1. You haven't heard of EEE (Triple E) because it hasn't made it's way to the West Coast. That's a good thing

    1. They have sprayed to kill the mosquitoes and in a couple of weeks we'll have a hard freeze which will get rid of the threat until next year.
