T Stands For Drive By Fish Fry

Friday's during Lent, the Knights of Columbus at the Catholic church in town hold a fund-raiser for their charitable organization, a fish fry. There are two seatings, an early and late. You go downstairs to the church hall, grab your dinner, sit and eat.

Covid changed all that. So the Knights came up with a Drive By Fish Fry. They have a food truck in the church parking lot. You drive through the parking lot following the trail of caution cones to place your order and get your food.

A member of the KofC takes your order and directs you further along the line. Another member, takes your money (cash or credit card)  and directs you to stop by the food truck. Another member brings you your order all tucked neatly in a bag. Then you leave the church parking lot savoring the deep fried perfume all from the safety of your vehicle.

Available for purchase is a cup of delicious fish chowder, a generous portion of haddock perfectly battered and fried to a golden brown, French fries (crisps), a side of Cole slaw, and tartar sauce. To complete my meal, a cup of water flavored with Mio tea flavored water enhancer. (I'm not fond of plain water)

As you can imagine the event is very popular around town. The Knights serve dinner from 4 pm - 7 pm or until they run out of fish.

Drop by hosts, Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog to find out what the rest of the T Stands For gang is up to. If you want to play, include in your Tuesday post a beverage or container for a beverage. Don't forget to link your blog to Bleubeard and Elizabeth's page.

  1. Wherever they buy the fish from, it's very fresh, and the chef knows how to cook it to perfection

    1. The fish chowder was delicious, too. Better the second week as it was a little thicker

  3. I had to laugh. I fixed batter fried fish and chips (fries) at home yesterday. I'm sure yours tasted much better than mine. It looks delicious, that's for sure. And I'm like you. I don't care for plain water, either. That's why I keep either lemons or limes on hand when I want to drink water. Lately, I've been getting oranges, because the price of lemons has gone sky high here in KS.

Thanks for sharing your drive by fish fry and your flavored water with us for T this Tuesday, dear CJ.

    1. I like the little bottle of water enhancer because if I’m out and about I can take it with me.

  4. How delicious! I would have enjoyed being there, too. By the way, French fries are chips, not crisps! T Day, Valerie

    1. Eating out in the basement of the church hall, isn’t my idea of ambiance. 😉

  5. As said before, "Corinna" also brings good. Like this creative way to beat "her".
I´d "go" for the fish, great idea, to the Knights!
Wish we had creative peeps like that here, I´d live more healthy ;-)
    Happy T-Day!

  6. Looks good, though it's too bad the social part is unavailable this year. The food looks good, though too bad you have to take it home before eating it just out of the fryer!

    1. I’m an introvert so the idea of eating at cafeteria tables with strangers isn’t appealing to me. Fortunately, we live less than 5 min. From the church so the food is still hot when we get it home

  7. Now that is a great idea. And it looks really yummy! Do they do this every Friday? I must say I now want some fried fish and would probably go every week if they did this in my area. Hope the suns come out already. Hugs-Erika

  9. What a great idea and your meal looks delicious, I do love coleslaw with fish and chips but I’ve only ever had it in America.
We only have our fish and chips to takeaway, we aren’t ready to eat out yet
    Happy t day

  11. I remember 'Fish Fries' on Fridays! My BFF the year we lived in Penn was Catholic so I got to tag along. Yummy! :)

  12. I think I might like the drive-thru fish fry better anyway ;) The church near us has a tradition of Friday fish dinners during Lent, and I haven't even noticed if they're doing it this year. Happy T Tuesday!

  15. wow until i read your post I forgot that when my mom was alive we always have fish on Fridays...being raised Catholic.....but since I am a very long time lapsed Catholic I prefer anything but... The photos of your food look good though. One thing I will never in my life eat again is Tuna Casseroles - ugh... had them so much .. in fact that and salmon patties are the only thing I remember from those Catholic days. (oh yes the guilt, lol)...just kidding...

    1. Isn't it funny some of the things we remember. The Friday meal Ma made that I didn't like was Pasta e Fagiole (pasta and kidney or cannelini beans though I didn't mind when she made it with chick peas). The Little Princess whined it was peasant food 😺 and I'm always stunned to see how much they charge for it at an Italian restaurant! The girlies called Tuna Casserole, Tuna Glop, from the sound it made when it plopped on the plate. I retired and from the guilt, too.

    2. Tuna Glop - perfect name for it... ..oh and she would put crushed potatoe chips on top of it - ..ugh.... Haha - another retiree from guilt and hell - way to go! lol. i still to this day can't imagine what a 6 or 7 year old would need to confess. i also went to catholic school and had a vey mean nun as a teacher.

    3. I'm a recovering parochial schooler, too. Most of the nuns and priest meant well, but there were some did not have the patience to deal with children. We were a captive audience. Saw and heard too much. I just hope karma was a real bitch 😉

  16. Its great that the church can still do their fundraising. We haven't had fish and chips for a while - the chef here went off sick ages ago! The stand in chef doesn't cook fish an chips anything like the chefs! Belated Happy T Day, Chrisx

  17. We have something similar here. We had pick up 4th of July, pick up Labor Day, pick up Super Bowl, and this week we drive by and pick up Opening of Baseball. All sponsored by a senior living complex. They hope we will be there in the future. LOL. Happy belated T Day!
