The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week.

1. Watched Lon Chaney  in the silent version of Phantom of the Opera. When I saw this when I was 10, I was home alone and it scared the hell out of me

2. As a reward for getting the 2nd Shingles vaccine, we stopped for gyros for lunch.

3. Insurance adjustor came to write up claim after Quill turned the taps on in the bathroom, overflowed the sink, and flooded into the basement. Adjustor gave us name of company to come in and dry the basement and check for mold

4. The new stair rails were installed.

5. I didn't have the usual flu-like symptoms after getting the Shingles vaccine. Just a very sore arm and feeling tired for one day.

How was your week?

  1. Oh dear your cat is up to mischief. I had my shingles vaccine last year, and it hurt, too! Happy Friday, Valerie

  2. As 4-y-o I saw a Czech fairy tale that still gives me the creeps thinking of it.
The only good thing was a walk to the new company in rain to deliver my papers and I was welcomed warmly.

    1. A warm welcome must have made the walk in the rain worth it.

  5. I got shingles #1 last month and it didn't go well for me. I had a 102 degree fever. Thank goodness for tylenol. Glad you had no side effects. And oh no, that sounds like a cat-astrophy. I can't believe the cute little kitty did all that much damage, but overflowing sinks can do that. Hope there's no mold and you can get a quick clean up. Sounds like this week had good and bad moments. Hope more good than bad. Hugs-Erika

    1. They came back to check the basement today. Said there was still a little damp so they left the blower going. Said they would probably be able to close up tomorrow. Yeah, you wouldn't think a little cute thing could manage a huge mess.

    1. Yes, we're still here so that in itself is a blessing.

  7. wow, never heard of a shingles vaccine - i'm out of the loop - only heard of the never ending covid vacc info. Ouch running water and damage. Hope it's not a lot. I'm glad Beanie behaves herself, unlike Quill, lol...she's so boring except for the 5 minutes at night when she runs through the house like crazy.

    1. I think the Shingles vaccine came out a few years ago. My dad has shingles, poor guy was so miserable for two weeks. A friend recently got Shingles and it took a long time for her to recover. She urged me to get the vaccine. Quill is still little at 7 mos. old and is still very curious.

  8. Oh dear! Naughty but cute Quill!

We've had some cool Autumn days this week, certainly soup and casserole weather :)

    All the best Jan

  9. I've never had a shingles shot, but I have an appointment to get my vaccine booster next week. Our county won't allow anyone under 65 to get the Moderna or Pfiser booster, but they say anyone 18 and over can get the J & J booster. I'm so glad I went with J & J in the first place, so I am feeling quite lucky.

Sorry about Quill. They put fans and blowers in my basement when it flooded a few years ago. They used these cute monitors that looked like the new thermometers you place on/near your forehead to check the moisture level before they turn those fans and blowers off. Good luck with that. I feel for you.

    1. They used that same kind of equipment in the basement, too. They arrived on Sunday to do the final check. Declared no moisture and took the equipment away

  10. I'm glad there's a vaccine for shingles. I know people who've suffered greatly from shingles.

    1. My dad had shingles and he was so miserable. A colleague got shingles over the Summer and took quite some time for her to recover. She was the impetus to get the vaccine.
