T Stands For Harvesting

Reggie's Morning Glory seeds. After the flower blooms (and they only bloom for one day) the flower shrivels up into these hard, brown pods. The pods are collected

I collected a cup full of pods.

The brown pods are dry and brittle. When you squeeze them, the tiny, black seeds fall out. Each pod has anywhere from two to six seeds in it.

My afternoon tea was a London Fog. Earl Grey tea, vanilla stevia, cream shaken so it froths when poured. It's supposed to be steamed and made frothy, but quick and dirty is fine by me. Yes, my tea is in a Christmas mug. It was clean. Don't judge me.

Since we had such warm temperatures late into the season, a lot of the pods are still green and soft. I'll leave them out on a paper plate to see if they dry and harden. If they do, I'll harvest the seeds.

The harvested seeds have been stored in a warm, dry place for further drying for a week. Next week, if they are thoroughly dried (very hard), they will be put in a plastic bag with a desiccant pack to wait for next Spring. Hopefully, they won't mold.

The Heavenly Blue Morning Glories didn't produce flowers 😿 so I'll have to buy another packet of seeds next year.

Drop by hosts, Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog to find out what the rest of the T Stands For gang is up to. If you want to play, include in your Tuesday post a beverage or container for a beverage. Don't forget to link your blog to Bleubeard and Elizabeth's page.

  2. It's that time of year for both harvesting and almost time for Christmas mugs. I'm starting to think about that holiday, or at least what I want to get people for gifts. Have a great T day. Hugs-Erika

    1. I wonder if these are the Grandpa Otts, too. The flowers were purple. I didn't know morning glories would reseed themselves.

  4. Good luck with your seeds for next year. I gave up on all of that as I have no green thumb whatsoever. I'm lucky to throw out a packet of zinnia seeds and get flowers:):) Happy T day!

    1. I don't have a green thumb either, but Reggie said collecting and planting these morning glory seeds was easy

  5. I have what you might call a brown thumb, so I would never even attempt growing these! LOL! Much luck!

    1. All the normal mugs were in the sink, and I was too lazy to wash one out. So grabbed a clean, Christmas mug :-D

  9. London Fog with Earl Grey teas is my very favorite. Not sure what you mean by quick and dirty; no froth? Hey, I was drinking out of my Christmas mug yesterday! For same reason, it was only clean one left! LOL Happy T Day!

    1. I shake the container so the cream gets frothy when poured. It's supposed to be warmed and then whipped with a whisk type thingy. shake and pour. Instant froth for a little bit. Quick and dirty (-:

  10. I hope your seeds dry well. It must be rewarding when you can use your own crops for next years planting.
I loved seeing your Christmas mug, I have never stopped using my Robin mud this year I'm sure my others will be appearing soon.
    Happy T day wishes.

    1. I hope the seeds will germinate as the seeds from Reggie came from seeds he planted decades ago.

  12. I'm sorry I'm late, but I think I overdid myself Sunday when I took a pseudo hayride out to a pumpkin patch and picked 10 gourds. I got overheated and didn't realize it until I got home and showered to cool down.

I laughed at your Santa mug. No judgement here, believe me. You should see the mug I use (large 32 oz. Wichita State insulated mug with lid). So glad you were able to harvest Reggie's seeds. I hope they grow next year. I am saving fennel seeds, so I hope those will grow next year, too. Good luck with yours. I sure hope they make it. Thanks for sharing these and your Santa tea with us for T this Tuesday.

  13. How very interesting. I had no idea that morning glory seeds made a nice tea. I am glad that you shared this. I love making my own tea blends.
    Happy Tea Day,

    1. Sorry, Kate. I didn't meant to imply I was making tea with the Morning Glory sees. Morning Glory seeds can not be ingested. They are a hallucinogenic. I collected the seeds so I can plant Morning Glories next Spring.

  14. I enjoy harvesting seeds as well. We've had such a wet season this year that i didn't get much harvested.
    Happy T day!

    1. There were still lots of seed pods on the vine, but they were all green. KathyintheOzarks said the Grandpa Ott variety reseeds itself. I have no idea what variety Reggie's morning glories are. Hopefully, they'll reseed themselves, too.

  15. Love your tea mug and so good to collect seeds-I collect loads and sometimes they grow when I plant them.

    Hope you enjoyed T Day

  16. Yes, it's always a good idea (and cheap) to harvest your own seeds. I hope these particular ones keep well unto next year.
There's nothing wrong with a Christmas tea mug. It is November tomorrow and Christmas is on its way!
    Have a lovely belated T-Day,
    Lisca
