Spring Fever

Some sunny days and unseasonably milder temps. have me feeling a bit of Spring fever. With Spring fever comes the urge to Spring clean. Christmas cardinal curtains were taken down. Windows in the kitchen, dining and living rooms were washed. Every day curtains for those rooms laundered and put up.

The momentum pushed me to tackle the closet in the studio. A couple of the shelves gave way under the weight of books.I should have taken a before picture. Books that I don't use were weeded out.The rest of the books were organized by subject and spaced so that the shelves wouldn't bow under the weight. History, small inspiration, go to books on illumination, Celtic knotwork, drawing, altered art, journaling, books I bring to class, and finally a place for the large binders filled with notes and handouts from classes I've taken, and artwork sent to me by friends over the years. The notes are slowly being digitized. I have too much stuff.

Does nice weather shift you into cleaning mode?

  1. Well done on so much cleaning and clearing. Nice weather entices me to go out, not to clean, but I do start clearing up when I can't find anything anymore! Valerie

    1. That's the way the bookshelves were. That and the books on the floor because the shelves gave way.

  2. Yes, the longer (sunlight) days and nicer weather during the transition from Winter to Spring causes me to think of doing Spring cleaning too. But I don't usually think of cleaning the windows until the time when I open them. My first Spring cleaning urges are to declutter, donate or throw out stuff I no longer use, etc.

    2. Oh, and I like to take the top layer of grime off. My windows tilt in to clean.

    1. Ah, you need to ride your mountain bike over here. I have lots of cleaning in the basement that needs to be done. 😉😺

  7. I'm more tempted to clean in the fall when I know the house will be closed up for months. Books are always heavier than I expect, and then the shelf gives way lol I've done pretty good at paring down my books so that doesn't happen again. Your system looks good!

    1. So far, so good. At least the stuff in front of the closet door is gone, and I can get into and find things in the closet. We'll see if the shelves hold up under the weight.

  8. You are on a roll. I read what you wrote about your windows. I installed those same windows in MO. I would give anything to be able to afford them in this house. Right now, I'm still working on organizing. You can't believe how many SOCK drawers I have. SAD. I also have some of those wonky bookcases. I finally built some in for my office (not freestanding). Solid wood is always better. I've never had a problem because I used 1 inch maple.
