Making Manuscripts

This video came across my Facebook feed. It touches on the process on how a manuscript was/is made: making parchment, quills, ink, calligraphy, gilding, and illumination.

    1. That's odd. I can see the video on the iPad, but not on my iPhone. I have no clue why, but thanks for letting me know. Enjoy your day!

  2. Fascinating video! I wonder how long it took to develop this process to the point of making these beautiful manuscripts.

  4. I never knew they could 'erase'! And.....I wonder what happened to the little bits of gold that flaked off after they applied the leaf.....just sayin'.....was somebody absconding with the 'goods'??? ;)

    1. The gold crumbs would have been collected and saved to be used to make shell gold. Shell gold is a paint made by grinding sheets of gold leaf and gum Arabic.

    1. Great! I have no clue why it wouldn't run on the phone. Maybe the file size was too big?

  7. I have some of that gold leaf, but have never used it. Someone gave me the sizing and the sheets. I've been told you can save the excess in a bag or container and use it with the sizing just like the entire sheet. This was a nicely done video and I enjoyed it.
