1. Sunday was National Ice Cream Sandwich Day. I bought ice cream sandwiches on the last shopping expedition. We've been enjoying them this week.
2. Picked the first zucchini of the season and made a batch of zucchini muffins
3. Because of tropical storm Isaias, the electricity went out around 6 pm. We had sent out for Five Guys at lunch, before the storm got started so in case we did lose electricity, we wouldn't have to cook. No one wants supper after the big Five Guys lunch. The solar battery kicked on and by being conservative with what was running (using the micro, the toaster oven, the AC use too much electricity) we were able to keep the sump pump humming and phones, iPad's and laptops charged.
4. The electricity came back on at 4:30 PM August 5 and not August 7, Friday at noon as predicted. The Powerwall was a good investment. It worked well and I'm glad it was Summer. In Winter we might only be able to limp along for a day as the sun won't be high enough to power the solar panels or recharge the Powerwall.
5. Anne of Anne's Creative Cornucopia called to let me know she was okay and had made it through the storm.
How was your week?
I love ice cream sandwiches.
ReplyDeleteIt's been pretty humid so they made a nice, neat treat
DeleteGlad the power off time wasn't as bad as it could have been, and that the power wall is working well. I like the cool-cat ice-cream sandwich! Have a fun day, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThe cat ice cream sandwich graphic made me laugh.
DeleteTo heck with the sump pump. I need my AC (grin). Glad you are safe and didn't lose as much time being without power as they expected. Nice that you and Anne are in contact with each other.
ReplyDeleteGosh. I may still have a (probably very smashed) ice cream sandwich in my freezer. Now I want to go look for it.
Sounds like, although there was trauma, you at least had a decent week in light of what COULD have happened.
At my house, the storm was just a lot of wind. A few leaves got blown down, and no trees hit the house or cars. Areas around us didn't fare as well. As of Thurs. Aug. 6 in the evening some 25,000 were still without electricity.
DeleteSounds like you had your power challenges.
ReplyDeleteNext time you have Five Guys call the HH, he'll be right over. Heh.
Hope your bday was as special as you. Belated BD wishes on Thursday's blog.
Have a great weekend.
We'll call HH's order in. Does he want a bun, a bowl, or a wrap? 😺
DeleteA good week all around! :D
ReplyDeleteWhen you can flush the toilet at whim, it's a good week. 😺
DeleteJust loving that animated kitty cat ice-cream sandwich ...lol 😀. I enjoy ice-cream sandwiches too, I buy a pack of Pink'n'Whites which are two crunchy wafers filled with pink and white marshmallow which I pull appart and fill with ice-cream - yum! Nice to enjoy the zucchini (or Courgettes as we call them here) from your garden too! Glad that you were ok in the storm and you were all organised, your lunch sounds delicious 😁. Happy Friday and weekend! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteYou pink and white ice cream sandwiches sound yummy. Now I'll be on the lookout for cookies that can be filled with ice cream.
DeleteI need to get these food holidays more than a week in advance ;) I missed ice cream sandwich day. I like zucchini, but it's been years since I made bread or muffins with it. I tend to forget how far north these storms affect weather and electric power. We don't tend to get bad weather from the Atlantic storms, and I never hear much news about them once they get past North Carolina. Your powerwall and solar battery system sounds like it stood up well to this test.

DeleteI need to make my grocery lists with this site open in front of me ;)
DeleteAll I Saw Was Ice Cream - Couldn't Get Passed That
ReplyDeleteCheers
And how many miles up Pike's Peak will you have to ride to burn off the ice cream? 😺
Deletethe ice cream sandwich GIF is too cute !!! :)
ReplyDeleteglad the storm was not more intense on your property; though power loss still craps ~~~~~
happy weekend !!
As the Tabbies would say, Tank Cod!
DeleteI hadn't been following national news - didn't know you were having a big storm. Glad your power wasn't out for as long as they expected. That's the only thing I dread about winter ...power outages. Sounds like a good week though.
ReplyDeleteOutages any time have their downside. In Summer you don’t have to worry about heat, but if the power is out for more than a day or so , you’ll lose all the food in your fridge and freezer. In the winter, we don’t have a heat source like a wood stove or fireplace. At least the food can be put in a cooler in the sunroom
DeleteYum to the zucchini muffins :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
