Looking for something to do close by while the Eldest was still home, we decided to visit Southwick Zoo. The zoo is spread out over 200 acres and has over 850 animals.
We have never been to the zoo as a family. When the girlies were little there was a Kindergarten field trip to the zoo. When the Young One was 8 years old, one of her school friends had a birthday party at the zoo.
Of course we picked one of the hottest and humid days to visit. We arrived close to lunch time. Most of the animals weren't active either due to just having been fed or it was too hot and humid to do much

Well-behaved Leos and friends patiently waiting to go home with a new buddy.
Day lilies
In the olden days, you could stick your head in Leo's mouth to get a drink of water. Now you can refill your water bottle.
4 Zebras stood on the compass points to keep watch
The flamingo in the center got his feathers ruffled about something
Behind the flamingoes, a black swan
Who knew their knees bent backwards?
An albino Wallabee
The kangaroo was too hot and tired to turn around. That's all, mate.
What a wonderful place to visit, I would have like it very much! Valerie
ReplyDeleteNext time, we'll pick a cooler day to visit
DeleteLove the water-lion!
ReplyDeleteIt hurts a bit to see the sitting flamingo!
I know I was shocked to see how flamingoes sit
DeleteToo hot to do anything! 🥵
ReplyDeleteWe've all gone to hell now 🔥
DeleteLoved seeing photos of the yak, the wallaby, the zebras, and the mural. We have zebras at our zoo, along with giraffes, but not sure about the others and definitely no camel. Nice photos from your zoo, even if it was hotter than hot.
ReplyDeleteHey little princess, you are the one who says the heat is wonderful and you LOVE summer. Seems there is a point where it is too hot for even you. Of course, I reached that point when it turned 80 F (grin).
I do love Summer and once in a while the heat does get to me. But then I remember I don't have to shovel the humidity
DeleteFunny I don't remember many details about the zoo from years ago, but when I saw the photo of that lion that used to be a bubbler, wow. I do clearly remember that. Funny what we remember and what we don't. Hope you had a great Monday.
