The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week.

1. Bribed with takeout lunch for going grocery shopping

2. On her blog, Divers and Sundry had posted The Hallmark Hall of Fame's production of Hamlet (1973) starring Richard Chamberlain. One of my favorites.

3. The mailbox was finally installed so the postmaster can quit crabbing at me.

4. The cardinal babies have arrived. Papa Cardinal took a turn feeding the babies

5. Made a half-assed, chicken Parmigiana which was pretty good, if I do say so myself.

How was your week?

  1. I was reading about your mailbox. From the looks of it, yours is definitely smaller than mine. Mine is the largest size that is allowed. My friend (sadly no longer alive) who was a postmaster insisted I get it, since back then I got so much mail and my box was a small one that was attached next to the front door, the postal carrier had no place to leave it except on my porch. I love it, and have even considered painting something on it, then realized I'm not an artist who can draw!

So glad to see there are new baby cardinals at your home. What fun it must be to watch them. Your chicken Parm sounds like it was good enough to eat (grin). Looks like you had a really GOOD week.

    1. It's hard to see into the nest so I don't know how many babies. I can hear them.

    1. Half-assed because I didn't make a chicken cutlet or bread the chicken. Just baked a chicken breast and then threw gravy (sauce) and melted mozzarella cheese over it. Served with linguine

    1. The old mailbox was a Rubbermaid double entry and stood in a metal bucket. It would get knocked over from the snow pushed by the plow or the slipstream of trucks flying past. I got tired of picking it up an resetting it a half a dozen times a day. In Feb. I took it down. Asked the post office if they could hold my mail and I would pick it up a couple of times a week. The project would have been done in March but the stay at home advisory closed the masonry supply. When it opened, the order we had placed had fallen through the cracks so we had to wait for the granite post to be reordered and engraved. By then, the stay at home is slowly being lifted, but the contractor has been uber busy so it was hard to get a time when he could squeeze us in.

    1. The postman wasn’t complaining the postmaster was. I’m sure the postmaster will find something else to complain about

  10. Thanks for the hat tip :) The cardinal babies are delightful. It's so cool that they nest in your yard. Weren't you picking up your mail at the post office with the postmaster's agreement? Your postmaster has an important job to do. I'm not sure your mailbox construction delay is part of that :/

    1. Apparently, USPS has regulations about how long a house can go without a mailbox. Something like 60 days. We were well over that since the box came down in Winter and the world shut down in the Spring. And we’re a small town so there isn’t too much to do

    2. Ah, I had no idea. I thought not having a mailbox was fine. Else what's a post office box for?

    3. Having a PO box is fine if that’s your legal mailing address. The legal mailing address for the Dollhouse isn’t a PO box and that’s what was getting his panties in a twist

    4. I've learned a lot through this. I know people who have both, and I hadn't realized there was even such a thing as a "legal mailing address". Thx!
