The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week.

1. A hummingbird visited the honeysuckle vine.

2. One of the baby birds poked his fluffy, little head above the edge of the nest.

3. Though the grocery store shelves were nearly bare of paper products, we did manage to score a package of toilet paper

4. I baked a pound cake but I must not have greased and floured the pan well enough as it didn't come out of the pan. King Arthur to the rescue.

5. Signing up for Medicare wasn't as traumatic as I thought it would be.

How was your week?

  1. Medicare isn't difficult....I don't know why people say it is. YAY for you! :)

    1. Well, the instructions should begin with sign up for Medicare at Social Security and not Medicare. Once I did that easy peasy. Now waiting for social security to process the paperwork. Himself has to call HR to find out how to enroll in the plan he wants to use

  2. Grass is mowed...

pregnant daughter had a good check up.. less morning sickness

getting projects done on the house

found thistle seed bags for the birds.. been out for a long while.. bought 4

making paper doll mermaids for granddaughter..turning out nice....

staining is turning out well on stairwell..

Our grocery stores are nearly back to normal... strange things come up short though... for no reason it seems... LOve your FFGT... it makes me think..and count my blessings.. Hugs! deb

    1. Sounds like you had a great week. Even if an entire week goes to Hell in a handbasket, there's bound to be at least one good thing that happened.

  3. The stores up here are always out of toilet paper and sanitizing cloths. But when we go down the mountain there doesn't seem to be a problem at all - at the big chain stores. except for the sanitizing cloths. Signing up for Medicare - i remember doing that ... it freaked me out that I was old enough..lol. But now looking back it freaks me out that I am really older now. love when the birds are around. we have a hummer that fights another one every day - two of them and they can't get along - it's like they think the other one is going to drink up all the good stuff.

    1. We’ve only seen one hummingbird and we donsee him or her all the time. It’s exciting when he does make an appearance

  5. Hmmm.... I wasn't done typing, and all of a sudden, the page updated. Let me try again: You're so lucky to have a Hummingbird visiting your yard. I'm sorry your cake stuck to the pan, but it sounds like you solved the problem. Scoring TP is always something to be happy about, as the shortages of paper goods continue. I meant to tell you hand soap refills seem to be the latest shortage, even online. Ugh.

    1. There have been some issues with Blogger that I noticed while commenting. Sometimes it’s taking longer than normal to upload. Watch the icon in the upper left of the tab. It will spin and spin or turn to a grey circle. Just wait it out. Eventually it will load the page

  6. Sounds like a good week. Baby birds are always fun to discover. I haven't seen a hummingbird in two years, They must have all moved northeast with the cardinals.

I STILL have a ton of TP. I bought a ton before Thanksgiving to put on my plungers in both bathrooms. I even bought enough more to make sure the plungers stayed full over Christmas. I've not had to buy any and probably won't for at least a year, since I'm very frugal. As for hand soap (I read what Anne wrote), I've been using Dawn. I figure if it kills oil on duck feathers, it should keep me safe from the virus. Sorry I'm late visiting, but for some reason, your blog doesn't update in real time like other blogs do.

    1. Blogger has been having issues. Updating has taken longer than normal. If you watch the Favicon, the tiny icon in the upper left of the web page tab, you will see it spinning or turned to grey. Eventually it will turn to normal. Not sure what is causing it to have issues as nothing has changed with blog layout

    2. I was referring to the update I get when your post goes live that I get on my left sidebar. It has nothing to do with the speed of YOUR blog, but how fast MY blog updates YOUR blog to my sidebar.

    1. I must have seen the head of a fledgling. The babies must have flown away as the nest appears to be empty.
      😿

  8. What is it with the toilet paper? Here it´s back to normal. Awww, the baby bird must´ve given you a smile for sure. "King Arthur to the rescue" means exactly what?
Oh, same as Anne. Aw, well, it´s a free tool, right...

    1. People in town must have the cleanest behinds. King Arthur Flour is the brand of flour I use. At the King Arthur Flour website you can find all sorts of recipes and baking tips. I found out how to remove a cake intact that has stuck to the pan.

  10. Oh no about the pound cake! That is so frustrating when it happens. Did King A rescue you or did you just enjoy the crumbs? Otherwise it sounds like a good week. I guess I missed this FRiday so I'm a little late. Hope you're enjoying the heat. Hugs-Erika

  11. Welcome, Hummingbird! Aren't they fun to watch?! As are baby birds :) Paper products are still hard to find here. It makes absolutely no sense. Medicare signup is coming soon for me, and it's good to know it'll be less traumatic than I had feared.
