Sandra from Sandra's Place mentioned in her Did You Know series that the official cat of Maryland is the Calico.
I had to be a copycat to see if Massachusetts has a state cat. We do! From Massachusetts Law Updates:
"The tabby cat was named the official cat of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1988, in response to the wishes of school children.
Massachusetts General Law chapter 2, section 30 simply states the cat’s official status. It does not define what a tabby cat is.
A tabby is not a specific breed, but the term refers instead to a type of fur pattern (actually four of them). Every breed of domestic cat carries the tabby gene. The tabby’s name descends from the Arabic term attabiya, a kind of striped silk originally made in the Attabiy neighborhood of Baghdad. "
How interesting. I was impressed. I even learned about tabby cats, and their genes.
ReplyDeleteI looked to see if KS has a state cat. We don't have a state pet, only the buffalo or bison, which is our state mammal.
I knew we had a state dessert, flower, motto, but didn't know we had a state cat.
DeleteThat kitty looks my Emmie did. She was so sweet, but tough as nails underneath. My kind of lady for sure. Happy Monday CJ.
ReplyDeleteThe sun is out, and it promises to be a good day.
