T Stands for Human Barometer

Last Tuesday, I woke up very early with a migraine. The barometric pressure was falling and

a huge storm with heavy downpours was moving through the area. I didn't need the weather dudette to tell me about the storm. Besides being wet and stormy, it was also going to be a non-productive day.

In my mid-20s when I was first diagnosed with migraine (due to stress), I was put on some pretty heavy and addictive medications. I don't take those kinds of meds anymore and don't want to. Some ibuprofen helps,

along with copious amounts of tea, and a long nap in dark, cool room.

A couple of years ago, I learned there was a pressure point in the pocket between thumb and forefinger, but it's hard to keep pressure on that spot for a long length of time. I came across this device called Aculief. It's a plastic clip that you slip over your hand that applies pressure to the nerve. The clip provides enough relief for me until the front moves through.

  1. It's amazing how there are often treatments and cures for things that don't involve heavy duty meds. I'm not against meds, but sometimes too many meds are just too many. Your Acelief looks like a great tool. Migraines are awful. I've had them on occasion, but not regulary. Hope yours stay away! Happy T day. hugs-Erika

    1. Fortunately, I don't get the migraines as frequently as I used to. When I do, the Aculief clip and Ibuprofen really help a lot

  6. Migraines are terrible. But I hope yours will go away completely one day. That happened to my Mom. I remember her having to lie down in a cool dark space too when she'd have a bad one and it was off and on for maybe 5 years .Thankfully they went away. Your little device to help is a good thing if it works- better than some of the nasty meds out there. Take care, and happy T day!

    1. It's not every storm. Just certain very big storms that move West to East across the country. I feel the pressure build up when the storm hits Eastern Ohio/Wester Pennsylvania. Weird

    1. I had heard about the pressure point before, but it was real hard to maintain the kind of pressure needed to relieve the pain.

  10. I suffered migraine badly when studying. Only when the pressure of studying was down - on the weekends with Ingo, every weekend. Got 8 sessions of acupuncture, worked wonders, after two years it came back - 4 sessions, pain free ever since (1999) Thank you for for this advice, though !!!

  12. It is amazing that you can find relief from pressure on the nerve. Much better than strong meds for sure. Sounds like you have an internal barometer that can predict the weather. Feel better soon.
    Happy Tea Day,

  15. I can tell you what the weather is going to do by head pain as well. I suffered with migraine since I was 3 or 4 years old. I have been on every kind of medication over the years and in the early 1990s "they" came out with triptan. The meds were some outrageous amount of money but I got free samples from the doctor and coupons from the pharmaceutical. Finally a few years ago, a generic came out. They are still expensive but I have insurance now. The pill is Relpax and the genaric is Eletriptan. It is the only thing that has ever worked for me. No side effects and takes the pain within 10 minutes. Hope you are feeling better by now.

  16. I get headaches, some of which are blinding and throbbing. I quickly drink a full cup/mug of coffee and within 30 minutes, my headache is gone. I know what causes mine, and I feel sorry that you obviously know what causes yours. I'm glad you found the pressure point Aculief to help until the air pressure subsides. Glad you shared this and your Ink tea mug with us for T this Tuesday, dear CJ. Hope by now, all is well and so are you.

  18. I'm sorry you get plagued with migraines. My mother, grandmother, and aunts all suffered with them. They all swore by aspirin and caffeine paired together at the first sign of a headache.Luckily, I've never had to deal with them.
