Fun Facts About the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

Massachusetts is named after the Massachusetts tribe of Native Americans. The tribe lived in the are of the Blue Hills just south of Boston. The name is a rough translation meaning at or about the great hill.

  1. So that's what the name means. Being a native I should know that, but I always thought it was named after a tribal leader back in colonial times. Nice share today CJ. And have a nice start to your weekend too. hugs-Erika

  2. Massachusetts history is very interesting. I don't think there's a single street corner that doesn't have a story to tell (and my father knew them ALL!) Touring historical places was his pastime....my feet still hurt....lol.

  4. Interesting. Thanks. The name Tennessee comes from a Cherokee town name, so our states have that in common :)

  6. Not sure how I got SO far behind, but I'm in catch-up mode now.

Not being from the east, I found learning a bit about the Massachusetts tribe of Native Americans who settled and lived there. I hope they are treated better than the Native Americans who live in Oklahoma.
