The Creative Lettering and Doodling with Lindsay group on Facebook were making a concertina book for the month of February. It was a structure I'd never heard about so I thought I would give it a try.
The materials needed were a 10 x 3 in. strip, five 8 1/2 x 11 pages cut in half, 9 of those pages used for the book pages, and nine 3/4 x 4 in strips for locks. You could do all your pages with the same color, I just grabbed stuff out of the scrap paper box, and I used cardstock.
The 10 x 3 in. strip is accordion pleated and becomes the hinge binding. A slit is cut in the center of the book pages. The mountain fold of the strip is inserted into the book page.
The thin strip of paper is inserted into the "tunnel" of the accordion, and the strip acts as a hinge lock. The hinges can be left showing in the book or they can be glued down and covered with paper/collage.
The finished book structure just waiting for a cover to be attached and the book to be filled.
This is interesting. I'm not quite sure what this will look like once you have a usable book so I hope you'll share it with us. Hope you're getting some melt.
ReplyDeleteThe book, as pictured, is complete. It can have added covers or left as is. The white hinge on the spine can left exposed or covered with paper
DeleteIt took me a moment to figure that out but i think i get it now...lol That's a nifty way to make a book! May have to try that! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteI was fascinated by the paper locks holding the pages in so they don't slip

ReplyDeleteDo you still have the books they made?
DeleteNo, though they may. When they got settled elsewhere I have their keepsakes to them.
