Fun Facts About the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
In 2006, basketball was designated the official state sport. The sport was invented in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith of Springfield. The Basketball Hall of Fame is located in Springfield.
OMGoodness. Baseball is boring, football is slow, but basketball, especially professional ball, is the best. I LOVED seeing that video and had to watch it again. I had never seen Jerry West play before, so that was a treat. Seeing Magic and Kareem in action together was a thrill that brought back memories of how great the Lakers were in the 80s and what rivals the Lakers and the Celtics were during that time. Seeing Larry Bird so young, and Julius Erving, Wilt Chamberlain, and Charles Barkley wearing 76er uniforms reminded me of why I love this game so much.
When I considered attending MIT, I joked I could never go there because I would be wearing my Laker's jacket to a Celtics game and would be kicked out (grin).
I agree that the game changed in the 90s and Kobe Bryant was the cause of much of the Laker's problem, especially when he insisted it was him or Shaquille O'Neal. We all know who DIDN'T leave.
I really MUST put this Hall of Fame on my list of places to go the next time I'm back east. BTW, did you know that Dr. James Naismith may have invented basketball in Springfield, but he was responsible for starting the basketball program at KU (University of Kansas Jayhawks). Naismith was responsible for so many firsts and he accomplished many, if not most of those at KU!
Thank you for making my DAY!! And that is no April Fool's joke, either.
basketball has always been my favorite sport until my granddaughter who is 16 started playing for the travel team on Volleyball. We watch it on our laptops now as there is someone videotaping the events. She lives in Bend Oregon and goes to various cities to play.
This is the perfect weekend to post this post with the big March Madness games wrapping up. Have a great few days.
