Health Update on Calli

Calli had a set back Wednesday and couldn't keep her food down. Another trip to the vet for observation and a 3rd x-ray. The blockage was still in the same place and hadn't moved on down the line. He ordered an ultrasound and had us bring Calli to the veterinary school hospital for the test.

I couldn't go to the hospital with her because I had to teach my class last night. The Young One (to carry the carrier) went with Himself (to carry the credit card) and then texted me updates. They arrived at the hospital at 4:30 pm. The Young One said it was very busy with lots of people coming in with animals. The last text update she sent at 7:45 pm:

So they checked the x-rays the vet sent over. They don't think she has an obstruction at least not a major emergency one. They're going to give her fluids and anti-nausea meds overnight. See how she does in the AM. If she's still having problems tomorrow AM, they'll do the ultrasound and see what what's going on. So far her problem is being considered non specific gastroenteritis. You'll be getting an email with the e$stimate for the co$t of care.

The Young One said the hospital would call between 10 AM and Noon with an update. Fingers crossed 🤞

  1. The nearest University Hospital for me is in Kansas City, MO. However, they do all kinds of cutting edge techniques and surgeries, all at no cost to the owner of the animal they are working on. It's their way of knowing they will get patients, some of whom get experimental surgery or diagnoses. The only requirement is, you must sign an agreement that whatever is done to the animal, there is no guarantee and the Uni hospital can't be sued if something goes wrong. After paying over $600.00 in 1991 to have a polyp removed from Dog with no guarantee from the vet, I think the Uni Vet Medical Hospital is the way to go, if the vet agrees to request the animal be admitted. It would be nice if that were the case for your Uni Vet Hospital.

    2. Sorry to read that. Makes you wonder if getting those two new kitties was a bad call.

    3. We rescued them from their abandoned beginnings. If something happens, at least we gave them comfort and a good life for a few months of their short lives. I don't think that's a bad call.

    4. I quite agree, CJ. What kind of thing is that to say? Bad call? Really? You are a good, caring human-being to take them into your heart!

I am still praying for you and Calli.

    5. I only meant it was a bad call monetarily, not emotionally.

    6. Money and emotions seem to go hand in hand. It's too bad we don't have the same philanthropic arrangement as the University Hospital in Kansas City. That is such a brilliant idea

  2. Tufts is a great hospital so you know they will do their best. I am thinking positive that Calli will get better. And of course Quill is fine but I can understand your worry. Sending good wishes!!!! And lots of good energy too. And I just read your comment on a comment and I agree. Being rescued has given them a good life. For many years to come for certain!!!!!
